Coach Chizik

Me, be behind on my blog, who would have guess it?!?  It's officially blog time... be ready!

People are going to doubt this statement, but it's the truth:  We had a great time in Auburn this year.  Yes, there was a lot of complaining... yes, there was a lot of whining about not winning games, and yes, I would be crazy to say I was happy about our season; but, week after week, Morris and Thomas had an amazing time.

If you think about it, they are too young to understand the concept of winning!  Yes, Morris knows in the backyard he wants to score the most touchdowns, but truly winning, he doesn't understand that.  What he loved, was going to Auburn and cheering on his tigers.

From band practice, meeting Coach Chizik and the football team, to staying up late the strolling around Auburn... it was all perfect to him.  The Gladden's had a great football season full of memories.

Coach Chizik being fired is certainly not breaking news.  Who our new coach will be is the number one topic at our house when we get to have real adult conversation.  The whole "Chizik" thing has been really tough for me to digest.  I think most people know that Coach Chizik is a great man.  He did wonderful things at Auburn.  People seem to quickly forget that we had not won a National Championship in 50 years.  But, what everyone doesn't mention is the kind of man Coach Chizik is.

When Coach Chizik arrived at Auburn, he quickly took over the Cancer wing at Birmingham Children's Hospital.  Not only his family, but the football players visit regularly   He opened his heart and gave of his time.  Coach Chizik has opened his wallet many times for the Cancer Unit and families.  This kindness and generosity that he has, is not often noticed by the media.  It's the kind of thing, that makes Coach Chizik the man he his.

I hate that he want be our Coach next year, because I know he is a wonderful man.  But I know, this will not change his spirit.

War Eagle Coach Chizik from our Auburn Family!!
