Morris had an amazing second birthday party with his friends. We gathered on December 21st for a gingerbread man, cookie making party complete with a visit from Santa. I started the idea for the party back in the early fall. It is just not easy to think of a theme party for a two-year-old when their birthday is on December 26th. I was limited on what I could do. After I found my idea, the party seemed to take on a life of its own growing larger and larger. We had approximately 18 children all under the age of five and approximately 38 adults. What started as a small cookie making party turned into this wonderfully large, huge, grand second birthday. It was very hectic, but great. We started the party at 5:30. As everyone arrived, we gathered and visited as the cookie
stations were being prepared. Morris was so glad to see all of his best friends: Annie (his first and true love, even though she is a foot taller than him), Miller, Charlie, Ingram, Sam Sollie, Max, Jack, Alice, Julianne, Lilly, Mary Carelton.... the list goes on and on... We headed to our cookie stations to get started decorating. The decorating was very cute. Some of the older kids did a great job delicately placing on the icing, putting each candy in place, and admiring their work. The kids Morris' age... well, they mostly just ate the candy. Morris had very little interest in decorating, but he was happy to show me the m&m's, marshmallows, peppermints. After decorating and candy eating, we had a surprise visitor. The kids heard bells coming down the hall
and what to our surprise... Santa Claus. Most of the kids were super excited.... who wouldn't want Santa at their second birthday? I don't know, because Morris was ecstatic! The first thing Morris "needed" to do was ring Santa's jingle bells. (If you don't know, ringing Santa's bells calls Rudolph to come.) Santa told us that Rudolph had to stay on the roof, but he was definitely there. Morris rang, rang, and rang... He sat in Santa's lap and he made sure to tell Santa that he wanted a weed-eater and blower. Each child the opportunity to talk with Santa... Santa also had the opportunity to determine if they were a good boy/girl. After Santa, who couldn't resist a little cake, yummy. I think each adult and child enjoyed a sweet treat. From cookie making, talking with Santa, and cake eating.... each adult and child was exhausted, but the children were not too exhausted to run up and down the hall a few times. Morris, Charlie, Miller, Ingram, and Alice mostly enjoyed running down the long hall of the Country Club and playing in the curtains. At one point, we thought about controlling them, but in the end, the decision was made to let them run and play. Hey, you are only two once in life. Morris' second birthday party was so much fun... I know that he will never remember it, but on the night of December 21st he had a wonderful time. We will always have the pictures and our memories to tell him about the day Santa visited his second birthday party. Happy Second Birthday Morris!
