Dragon Boat races happen in Gadsden over the weekend to benefit Habitat for Humanity. Dragon Boats filled the Coosa River starting on Thursday. Each boat is 46 feet long and contains 20 paddlers. Gadsden needed 30 boats to race to raise the money to build a new Habitat for Humanity house. All day Saturday 25 boats raced along the Coosa.
Chants could be heard up and down the river for the various teams:

The names were as humorous as the the costumes that the drummers/callers were wearing. The drummer/callers were trying to earn the coveted "best dressed" drummer costume.
Claire and I took Morris and Miller to enjoy the festivities. It was hot and humid to say the least. The boys were great sports. We watched all of the qualifying rounds where every team raced. We made it through some of round two, but it was just too hot for us.
Morris and Miller thought the races were fun, but mostly, they couldn't understand why they couldn't paddle, swim in the river, beat the drum... Our boys are always on the move and looking for a mess to get themselves into!
