We spent most days from 10:30am-1pm playing at the pool. The pool was both a blessing and a curse. Taking two children under three by myself was tough, but having something to do where they were active and wore themselves out was great.
When Morris took his swimming lessons with Mrs. Phyllis, I was sure that he would swim like a fish this summer. That's a big, NO. Morris is not tall enough to touch in the three feet unless he is on his tip-toes. That is just not practical when Thomas is with me. Morris and I made an agreement early in the summer that if mommy is at the pool, floaties on... if daddy is with us floaties off. Morris was not a fan of having to wear his floaties when some of his friends were "free". Sometimes you just can't go with the crowd. Floaties versus drowning... floaties win every time!!!
A little FYI: Morris keeps announcing that he can swim and doesn't have to go back to Mrs. Phyllis. Well, he is going back next May. Hopefully he will be taller and the swimming will be easier when he has the comfort of touching in the shallow end.
Thomas... oh sweet T.... Thomas started out the summer in the baby float with the overhead shade screen. He quickly let me know that he was more active and needed a bigger boy float. Enter the swim shirt with float ring attached. Maybe not the most attractive flotation devise, but perfect for the active 1-2 year old.
Morris
- swims some with floaties - swims some without floaties
- still loves to play on the steps with pool toys
- jumps off the side of the pool
- still hates getting his hair wet
- refuses to jump off the diving board
Thomas
- swims with a swim ring
- loves to play on the steps with pool toys
- jumps off the steps to me in the pool
- loves to splash himself and others
- lets you drag him all over the pool
Morris and Thomas had a wonderful summer splashing around in the pool!
