Snow Week

Our week started off very different from most weeks, Jared and Bud left for Birmingham on Sunday night to spend the night and then fly out of town. They were traveling to Glendale for the Auburn Championship Game. Mother and I were left at home to prepare for Winter Storm 2011. All week the television had been saying that a Winter Storm was coming. Since Jared and Bud were going to be out of town, mother and I decided to both stay at her house with Morris. Although we were sceptical about the six to eight inches of snow they were calling for, we knew we had to be prepared. Around dinner time Sunday night, the snow started to fall rapidly in big flakes. Before we knew it, there were two inches of snow on the ground. The thoughts in our mind immediately started spinning.... will we lose power, what will we eat, will we have heat, how will Morris handle this... will we... what if... the questions were endless. In 1993 Gadsden had an awful Winter Storm that left many without power, heat, food, and water for over a week. With Jared and Bud gone, mother and I were nervous of all the what ifs! When we woke up Monday morning, we found a beautiful winter wonderland. The snow was pure powder and covered everything around us. It was truly something special to see... God's work was all around us. Gadsden ended up with six to eight inches of snow and ice. As the neighborhood started to wake up, the snow fun started! Mother's neighborhood is filled with kids, ranging from Morris' age to middle school... plus many men who think they are kids. Trash can lids were being pulled off to use as sleds... floats were being blown up for snow-tubing.... four wheelers were hooked up with anything slick they could pull the kids on... and golfcarts were seeing who could make it up the big hill by mother's house. Morris loved all the excitement! It was wild on Claremont! Mother and I quickly got dressed to take Morris and Louis out. As you can image, Morris loves the snow while Louis would prefer to watch us from inside the house. Morris played with Beck girls, Holland, Sarah Kate, and Piper, for a little while. Sarah Kate taught Morris how to eat snow... tastes like candy he proclaimed. We had a great Snow Day 1. Today is now Saturday and we are on Snow Day 6. The snow is not so pretty... the kids were out of school 6 days... we were home bound for almost 4 days... the beauty of the snow has worn off around town. Snow you were beautiful and we had a great time, but it is time to melt. This is the South and we like the sun... Happy Winter Storm 2011! ** Please note all my pictures are from my cell phone since our good camera was in Glendale at the game, excuse the poor quality. **
