July 4th is always a fun holiday. There are things to me that seem quintessential to the fourth: family, swimming, fireworks late at night, bar.b.que! We tried to enjoy all these American traditions this year plus more.
I mapped out our plans for The Fourth all week. The plan was to play hard at home and lay the boys down for an early nap. They would then wake in time for pool games at 3pm. In typical fashion, the weather put a hiccup in our way. The morning was beautiful, hot, and full of family time. Around 1pm, the clouds rolled in with full thunder and lighting. My mood had shifted and I was nervous how we were going to keep two antsy boys busy all afternoon.
Luckily the clouds parted and the sun shone again. The weather was much cooler and made it nicer for us. We headed to the pool for games, bbq, egg toss, and the pie eating contest. Guess who loved the pie eating contest, Morris. He loved dipping his head in the pie and eating like Louis. It was a great memory.
We were home by 8pm and enjoyed a few of our own family fireworks. The boys were EXHAUSTED!! We wish we could have made it to the city fireworks... maybe next year. Our Fourth was a great family day!
