Potty Time

This weekend officially started Potty Bootcamp. Morris is learning to wear his undies, tee-tee, and poo-poo the potty. It has been no easy chore. There are a million books out there on potty training, but there is one thing I have learned about books since having Morris 28 months ago... they are useless or at least to me they are. All the book does is make me nervous and make me assume that some baby is accomplishing a "milestone" quicker then us. So needless to say, I have not read a potty training book. But, many years ago, I took a class in college and learned about Pavlov's dog. Potty training is very similar. Instead of ringing a bell, we set the kitchen timer for 20 minutes. When it rings, we throw our hands in the air... scream potty time... and run as fast as we can. Morris plops himself on the potty and we are guaranteed a tee-tee.

That was part one of the blog that I started last weekend... fast forward to today.

All I can say is that we have had a week... a great week, but a trying week. One of my dear friends, Claire, just put Miller's undies on and he started going to the potty, not my boy. After a few days of the 20 minute routine, I was about ready to throw in the towel. Thankfully Kaki was here to continue encouraging me that Morris would get the hang of it. He was doing great when we would ask him to potty, but he would not voluntarily tell us when he needed to go... and pooing in the potty was an entirely different story! - The decision was made that Morris would only wear his underwear during the day and that we were not going to ask him every 20 minutes if he needed to use the potty. SUCCESS!!! Morris is finally getting the hang of it. We still are having a few accidents, but he now announces that he needs to tee-tee. Even today in Hobby Lobby, Morris looked at me and said it is time. Deep Sigh... I think we may be partially potty trained.

You may be concerned when I said we are only partially potty trained. Yes, pooing the potty is still not easy for Morris. In one weeks time, he has successfully poo-pooed the potty twice. We celebrated: we did a poo-poo dance, we ate candy, we even went to Wal-mart and bought a toy! He walks around asking everyone if they poo-poo the potty. I think he is still trying to confirm in his mind that poo-pooing in the potty is normal. I don't know, who is to know what is going on in a two year old's mind. Continue to wish us luck. It is 2:33 on Saturday and we haven't had our poo-poo yet. When he wakes us from a nap... poo-poo time!

I never thought when I started my blog there would be a post devoted to bodily functions. But, hey, this is our life and I am documenting it. We are deep in potty training at the Gladden House.
