Easter Traditions

Traditions can be old or new... started long ago or started now... ever changing but always present.  Jared and I have many different traditions.  Some of our traditions were started by our parents or grandparents.  Many of them we still honor, but some of them we have changed.  We also have many new traditions we have started as a family of four.

It seems like around the holiday season is when we have the most traditions.  Easter is always filled with special moments and traditions.

One of our many Easter traditions is dying Easter eggs.  The boys love it.  The week before Easter we gather all our supplies and get ready for the big event.  The boys get excited and I panic.  Our kitchen counter is Alabama marble.  White marble and two young boys don't go together.  Our counter already bares the scares of drink rings, parties, and just the general wear and tear of two boys.  My white counters do not need an Easter egg dye streak running across them.  As the boys talk of dipping eggs into bright colors, I always run around gathering towels to protect my counters.

This year, I noticed people were dying brown eggs.  That worked out perfect for me.  I already had a dozen brown eggs in the refrigerator.  The boys could care less what color the eggs are.  They just want them to change colors.  The brown eggs turned out wonderful.  They were beautiful colors instead of the bright Easter egg colors in traditional dying kits.

The boys loved every minute of dipping the eggs in dye, moving them from one color to the next, and just enjoying our family time.

When it was just Morris, we thought tons of things were hard.  Ha... Oh how wrong we were wrong!  Adding Thomas added tons of joy to our family, but it also doubled the chaos.

Getting dressed and ready for church is never an easy task.  Don't ask me why.  We wake up in plenty of time, but we just can't seem to get our act together on Sunday morning.  Easter Sunday has never been an exception to the rule.  Easter Sunday seemed harder with the Easter bunny bringing treats.

Last year, we started a new tradition: The Easter Bunny delivers our basket on Saturday morning.  The boys have an entire day to play with all the surprises helping to ease the chaos of Sunday morning.  I'm not saying we made it to Easter Sunday on time, but we weren't in such a panicked state.

One of our favorite and most chaotic Easter traditions (chores) is taking our family Easter picture.  My boys and pictures do not really go together.  They make a beautiful picture once we get everyone to look at the camera and smile, but trying to get the perfect picture is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Easter 2013 was difficult.  The weather was cold and rainy.  Not to mention that Easter was in MARCH!  How were we to get the perfect picture with limited flowers blooming and cold, rainy weather?  Our pictures aren't perfect this year, but our life isn't perfect either.  I'm proud of my pictures with a 4 and 2 year old.

We had a wonderful Easter full of memories and traditions
