"Rolling" Toomer's Corner

Auburn University has many wonderful traditions, but one of our favorites is Rolling Toomer's Corner. A little history for my Non-Auburn readers... Toomer's Corner is where the town of Auburn and the University meet. There are beautiful oak trees that stand proud and tall welcoming you to Auburn. The corner received its name for the original drugstore in Auburn that is still located at the intersection, Toomer's Drugs. Toomer's Drugs is also known for their famous lemonade. Around 1962, the infamous rolling of Toomer's started. On away games, Toomer's Drug would receive a call letting the campus know of a victory. Students would then roll the oak trees to let all of campus know of an away game victory. For many years, the Rolling of Toomer's was used only for away games. Later the Auburn family and students decided that Toomer's should be rolled for any significant win. The best way to describe what Toomer's looks like after a victory, a blizzard! Auburn fans from far and wide come to roll the trees and celebrate with their Auburn Family... War Eagle! - Toomer's has been rolled seven times this year. (We are hoping for many more...) Each time, Morris has been asleep for the "rolling" Between the many night games and missing a game, he has not celebrated at Toomer's. This week, Morris had an awful stomach virus and had to cheer his tigers on from outside the stadium. He cheered and cheered for his tigers... At the end of the game, we thought it was only fitting for Morris to enjoy his first "rolling" of the season, even if he was wearing his pajamas...
